Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
