The second-hand marketplace Members Share Frustration Regarding Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.
Social Media Reaction
Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The company said the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to review their products and adjust the sizing manually where appropriate, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Modifications
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, based in Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as size 20–22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered due to the update requiring manual adjustment the measurements for "each individual item".
"This situation is especially annoying, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Service Background
The platform boasts over 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, Vinted reversed a change concerning shipment methods after backlash from users.
